March 2025 Newsletter: New Release: Two Sequences out now on Burnt Seed Records

Hi friends,

This newsletter is coming as the end of summer is approaching and the equinox and autumn are making their imminent arrival known. This year, I’m hoping to move with more intention and clarity.

I’m excited that my new work, Two Sequences, was just released by the lovely Burnt Seed Records. Made up of sounds of the space, feedback, objects, working with the Floors and the Table Floors, this work is made up of recordings of improvisations on these instruments (recorded by Hadyn Buxton at Monash), with the creation of the layered produced work by myself and Theo Carbo. Joe Talia’s mastering was wonderful and I’m so glad to be using a beautiful photo by Niran Dasika for the cover. It was so much fun to try new forms, exciting scary ideas I’d wanted to play with for quite some time, and to make something from a free space for form. BSR have been so wonderful to work with and ever so patient and supportive, and I'm so delighted to have this music out through them.

Here it is if you want to have a listen

It’s been a big summer with so much love, care and growth, beach and roads, sunshine, friends, plants and pets. I’m trying to keep some January energy as March choochoos forward and things ramp up this year. Trusting in unfamiliar paths that I feel drawn to has been a great catalyst to lots of good in my life in the past few years; what does it look like to intentionally cultivate this trust in the moons ahead?

Sending you all love from the shore,

Iran xo

Hello Friends! I’ve loved drawing for a long time, and watercolours too. From about 2018, I started casually keeping a notebook of drawings when I travelled, and in 2021 onwards, it turned into a regular habit of sketching at gigs, hangs with friends, and then watercolours in and around the place. Pt turton Rupie Scoops Murphy D The collection of them, which I recently photographed, has come to cover all sorts of environments and encounters over the past few years, and I thought I’d share...

Hi Friends, It has been a very transit-heavy time, with lots of fun things going on. Upcoming: I’m at CCRMA, where along with Luna Valentin and Celeste Betancur I’m making a work entitled threefold, bringing our practices together in a work that uses virtual acoustics, gesture, AI and ALL SORTS OF BITS! We have things ...and maybe ourselves?? hanging from the ceiling and I can't wait to play the floors not on the ground. We’re performing on Saturday 21 June at 7:30pm PST. We’d love to see you...

Dear friendos, It’s been a while since I sent a newsletter, and I keep meaning to do so, wanting to encapsulate more of what’s been going on, and to recap some of the fun adventures I’ve been having. I’m giving up on that, because it’s delaying my ability to get this going. I initially wrote this on the 3rd of January and it’s taken me this long to send it. Here’s to a year of grace with the calendar. 2024 was a really big year. My musical practice changed so much with the trip to CCRMA,...
